Voicecompo #1

It all began on the rainy Saturday night the 13th March 2004 at 2 AM.

The 21 voicescontestants were:

02:07:25 [Users #dagisdata]
[@L ] [+dhym0n ] [+kash|sjuk ] [+martbhell] [+ProzZerg] ] [+[Toastmaster]
[+[eZ]ParalyzeD [+[discharged] [+KnaFFo ] [+Masonit ] [+[[rev]] ]
[+TRAppERz ] [+[m3RLiN] ] [+Dr_DooM| ] [+Lionh3art ] [+merta ]
[+s1lver ] [+[darkie-] ] [+Jacob| ] [+Major_Meatbone] [+Neman`off]
[+schema-bot]

Rules:

They were very unclear, only thing was decided prior to the contest began: that nobody should have operator status in the channel during the contest. Hence, I cleared the chanlev of #dagisdata, except myself (martbhell). I kept +mn, so we could get our lovely "buns" back after the contest. During the contest, some more guidelines and rules(at that moment unwritten) were invoked. First one would be what is the prize, second: who would win and as the third: at the end of these earlier discussions somebody asked, how would one win? And as stated before, these are just part of the "voicecompo-book".

  • . A pizza, it was somehow decided that everybody should ship in, and get the winner a pizza for free.
  • . You win by being the only person to have a + infront of your nickname.
  • . There are of course less glamorous ways to win, one would be to use a Denial of Service attack against one or several of the contestants. Making them not being able to recieve a PONG, nor send a PING to the IRCd, thus getting disconnected. This would of course be quite easy to accomplish for some of the people in the contest and the "staff" would have to rely on logs and words. But nonetheless the staff frown on this, if we would discover that these actions were used, we would disqualify the contestant from the competition.

The "staff" came out to be those who thought of the whole shabang, Toastmaster and me, martbhell.

As a little sidenote on the rules, if there will be a second voicecompetition, the rules will most likely change, especially on Rule #1 and maybe some additions. Also, the management might change, if there are some people not happy about how this contest is(was) run(ran), please let us now.

Now, on to the incredibly interesting channelparts.

One after one they started to drop off.

13/3 - Eight users couldn't stand the pressure, and put the soccershoes on the shelf.

23:28:50 [!] discharged [~discharge@h22n2fls32o981.telia.com] has quit [Ping timeout]

During the peak of the preexam-studying for "Databasteknik 1", Discharged gets tired of life and leaves us for a world with slower response time.

Merta went straight to idlehell.

Our favorite bot moved to New New York and started calling itself Bender.

19/3

23:18:52 [!] s1lver [~s1lver@217.210.99.22] has quit [Ping timeout]

Congratulations on the bronze, no prize but at least your host looks better :) (h22n2fls32o1102.telia.com, as good as a teliahost can look that is)

Semifinals have begun - the only people still alive and kicking are rev and darkie-

24/3

03:22:19 -!- Too many clones from your host
03:22:19 -!- ERROR Closing Link: zaphod by wineasy1.se.quakenet.org (G-lined)

Winner

Good fight darkie, and congratulations to the silver. I suppose the reason why darkie lost, is somewhat connected to this, which one of my host, on the same shell got. Also, around the same moment, lots of other people got disconnected, as of a pretty major split on QuakeNet.

03:39:59 [!] Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: kashchei
03:45:10 [!] Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: schema-bot, discharged, Toastmaster
03:45:26 [!] Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: KnaFFo, dhym0n, s1lver, rev
03:45:54 [!] Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: [m3RLiN]
03:46:42 [!] Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: @L, TRAppERz, Jacob

As you can see, Rev was in these quits, at least looked from my side, which would only mean that rev chose the "best" server. Maybe something for the other contestants to think about in the future.

And we have a winner, Rev. Around 3.30 AM 24th March, the only other person with a voice lost his. Congratulations old man.
